HR Bosses Keen To Utilise AI Technology For Recruitment

While it is only natural that some people will be wary of new technology, it seems as though many small businesses around the United Kingdom are keen to grasp the advantages provided by technology. This is definitely true when it comes to recruitment and a survey undertaken by an online recruitment platform indicates that many HR departments are willing to see change in how companies go about enlisting new employees.

It was found that 79% of HR managers of small businesses in Britain stated that they are optimistic or excited about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the recruitment process. There was also a response of 25% when it came to finding people who want to use this technology straight away. 500 SME HR bosses were questioned about the use of AI, robotics and technology and their attitude to using this approach.

There is optimism about this approach

Just over half of all respondents, 50.5%, said that they were “optimistic” about the changes that will likely come with AI and just over a quarter, 28%, said that they are “excited” about the opportunities that will come from this new style of approach. While the news that 25% are keen to use the technology as soon as possible, there is also a great deal to be said for the fact that two thirds of respondents said that they are keen to consider it for the future, as this shows that there is an open-ness about using this sort of technology at a later date.

There is no denying that there is a great deal of competition for the best employees, so anything which can help small firms compete and find the right people has to be seen as a good thing. There is also the fact that using technology or AI can minimise the risk of prejudice or bias impacting on any employment decisions. Companies should be looking to create a level playing field so they can find the best possible candidate, and the use of technology can make a difference.

There are some concerns over the use of AI in recruitment

Of course, not everything associated with technology is fantastic with respect to the recruitment sector. 20% of respondents suggested that they were “terrified” of technology and making the wrong decision. There are also some people who are dubious as to whether AI can make the right decision when looking to employ people.

Some concerns that were cited include:

  • The removal of the personal touch in looking for a new employee
  • Jobs being removed from people
  • Hacking and security concerns
  • Tech errors or failures

There is also a concern that employees would tailor their CV to appeal to the AI technology as opposed to offering a true representation of what they offer.

There will be a need for HR professionals to oversee the process and to make sure that everyone in the department is happy with how the AI is operating. If this can be achieved, there is a very good chance that AI will become a key feature of the HR process in years to come.
